Nekkts Step Hope Foundation’s goal is to bridge these gaps with our tailored in- home life skills and support programs. Designed to address unique challenges and provide participants aged 16 to 21 in foster and extended foster care, our programs offer the necessary information, guidance, and resources while enhancing the essential skills they need to live successful and independent lives.
Youngsters in foster care often face significant challenges as they transition into adulthood. The instability of their living conditions, the emotional and psychological impact of their experiences, and the lack of consistent support systems can hinder their development and readiness for independent living.
Our founder, Karen Bowen, spent over five years in the social services division before becoming a foster parent in 2008. Since then, she has supported over 300 children in her care. With first-hand experience of the challenges and lived
experiences of children in foster care, she created a program specifically for teens aged 16 to 21.
Throughout her 16 years as a foster parent, Ms. Bowen has observed the many struggles’ adolescents face in preparing for adulthood, particularly in acquiring essential life skills.
Through the Nekkts Step Hope Foundation, foster children are introduced early on to concepts such as financial literacy, self-care, goals setting, effective communication, and social skills, which significantly benefit their development and social interactions.
